The resistance band on the market is generally divided into two kinds, fabric resistance bands and latex resistance bands. Fabric resistance band are made of polyester cotton and latex silk. Latex resistance bands are made of natural latex and they are eco-friendly. So how to choose the resistance bands made of these two materials?

Latex resistance bands

Latex bands, or rubber bands, are resistance bands made of latex or rubber. Latex resistance bands have different resistance levels, from ultralight to overweight. They also have different lengths. You can use short straps for lower body exercises and long straps for upper body exercises.

Advantages:

  • Available in different resistance levels for almost all fitness levels.
  • Available in various lengths, suitable for workouts that can be done for all muscle groups throughout the body.
  • It’s easy to clean them — just rinse with water.

Disadvantages:

  • Latex tends to stick to the skin and is not suitable for those who are allergic to latex.
  • This type of band is easy to roll up, and easier to slide.
  • Latex and rubber are not durable materials, and if used frequently, they are quickly torn.

Fabric resistance bands

The fabric resistance band is a resistance band made of fabric. It is usually used only for hip activities and lower body exercises. However, there are also longer bands suitable for upper body workouts.

Advantages:

  • Fabric resistance bands are much stronger than latex bands and add a lot of resistance when exercising in the legs.
  • Have better support and grip, not easy to slide. Fabric bands stay in place and do not slip off your legs.
  • Fabric resistance bands can be used on bare skin without feeling pain.

Disadvantages:

  • Weak elasticity, easy to deform for long time use.
  • Not suitable for upper body movement, mostly used for hip movement.
  • Fabric resistance bands must be washed and air-dried after use.
